It’s that time again.  The Palmetto Pro Shop is having a Super Bowl Sale. Our stock of men’s and ladies clothing is marked between 40% - 70% off retail pricing.  Come in and take advantage of great savings from manufacturers such as Polo/Ralph Lauren, Ashworth, Oxford Golf and Foot-Joy.

I would like to congratulate everyone who played in our Super Bowl Scramble in what can only be described as “less than ideal” temperatures.  However, the high participation level and competitive scoring proved once again a testament to the dedicated and quality membership at Palmetto Country Club.  I thank you for your continued support which makes this club very special.

The PMGA will be hosting the first annual Par 3 Shootout on Saturday, February 24th.  We will convert our golf course into an 18 hole executive par 3 golf course.  The water hazards, bunkers and green designs will be utilized in an adventurous and challenging way.  So come join us for what will be a fun and memorable event

Just when you think you got it all figured out, Mother Nature throws you a curve ball.  Simizine is a herbicide that is used to kill Poa Annua or Annual Bluegrass, the green weeds you see all over the course.  The Poa on this course has developed a resistance to this specific herbicide, so all the time and money spent trying to kill the winter weed have all been for not.  So once we figured this out it started raining and would not stop long enough to get out a better herbicide.  However, we will get to killing as soon as we can.

Otherwise the course is doing well through the winter.  The greens have slowed enough where we only mow about every 10 days and roll and blow the other days.  They are not lightning fast but I have heard no complaints about speed.  I feel that the rough has held up quite well since it stopped growing.  We will apply the fertilizer that we applied last summer that is the reason why it is still thick.

Frankly, I can’t wait till the spring gets here.  Not that I don’t like the winter.  We have done some projects like adding on to the maintenance building and edging cart paths that we just don’t have time for in the summer.  But, we have all new equipment including mowers, carts and sprayer that will have a huge impact on course conditions.  I have been able to get fertilizers and chemicals to apply to the course that have previously been out of reach.  We have three big projects that will be done in the spring, including an Azalea bed behind #5, adding irrigation and Fescue to the hillside on #6 and drainage work from #8 lake to #5 culvert.
