The letter is to inform you that Palmetto Country Club will permanently close on December 31, 2014. November marks 1 ½ years of ownership for me and my business partner. During this time I have injected over $350,000 towards capital improvements in hopes of increasing the membership base to further the longevity of the Club. Other strategies include restructuring the membership plan, food & beverage operation, and course maintenance procedures. Unfortunately, there has not been an increase in member numbers that would enable the continued operation of the Club. Palmetto is not alone in this struggle and two dominating factors are in play: memberships are decreasing nationwide, especially in the under-40 bracket; and the industry has been over built making growth within golf clubs very difficult.
Due to the above financial factors and recent personal difficulties, over the past 6 months I have been working to find other investors interested in purchasing the facility who would be able to carry the debt needed to sustain it as a golf club. As you can imagine, there was little interest. For this reason the facility and land will be sold as development to a private investor.
Beginning November 3rd Palmetto will become a cash or credit card only facility. Individuals will still have usage of the club facilities as normal upon payment of dues and fees. I do hope you will continue use of the club during these final months when possible. If you have any friends who wish to take advantage of the monthly unlimited golf membership please have them contact the golf shop.
Please understand this has been a difficult and painful decision for me, as my family and I have been part of Palmetto since its beginning. I sincerely thank you for your past business and loyalty. I also wish to deeply express my gratitude to the personnel of Palmetto Country Club for their cooperation and professionalism, and to the membership for the enduring relationships we have formed.
One further item must be addressed: I appreciate those of you who have paid your monthly bill on time each and every month. However, there are some of you with outstanding balances that will no longer be carried past due. All member accounts must be current by November 30.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to visiting with you as, together, we say goodbye to a grand tradition and one of the finest courses in Northwest Louisiana.
